On this page
- The Chimera is the newest of the three clan bosses. It opens at account level 33, you fight it with five champions, and the battle is capped at 65 turns.
- You get two keys a week. Your damage earns a chest, and if the clan defeats the boss, everyone's rewards double.
- It changes form as the fight goes on - Ultimate, Ram, Lion and Viper - and each form punishes a different kind of team.
- Its rewards are the materials that make and upgrade relics: Starstone, Basalt and gemstones.
- Besides the main fight, there are separate "trials" for each form with goals to meet.
What it is
The Chimera is a clan boss, like the Clan Boss (Demon Lord) and the Hydra, so you need a clan. Where the Clan Boss has no turn limit and the Hydra gives you six champions, the Chimera is short and strict: five champions, 65 turns, and your score is the damage you dealt in that time.
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Account level 33 and a clan |
| Team | Five champions |
| Length | 65 turns |
| Keys | Two per week, handed out after the weekly reset |
| Difficulties | Easy, Normal, Hard, Brutal, Nightmare and Ultra-Nightmare; each stays open for the clan once reached |
The four forms
The Chimera cycles through four forms during a fight. The Ultimate form is its strongest state, and it appears between the animal forms. Ram, Lion and Viper are the other three, each with its own set of attacks and rules. Reports describe the forms changing every few turns in a fixed order, and repeating that order twice within the 65 turns. Its affinity rotates about every four weeks.
The practical consequence is that you cannot play the whole fight the same way. A team that is great against one form can be in trouble in the next, and your champions' cooldowns need to be ready when the form that you can hurt most arrives.
What a team needs
The Chimera is damaged by the usual set of weakening effects, and its fight is short enough that burst and survival both count. Teams commonly want:
| Need | Look for |
|---|---|
| Weaker enemy | Decrease DEF, Weaken, Decrease RES |
| Slowing it down | Decrease SPD |
| Sustain | Heal, Continuous Heal, Leech |
| Using its attacks against it | Reflect Damage, Counterattack, Pain Link |
| Staying clean | Block Debuffs |
Crowd control is less central than for the dungeon bosses, and we have no confirmed list of what the Chimera is immune to, so read its description in the game before you plan around a control skill. The buffs and debuffs guide explains each effect.
Trials
Trials are the second part of the mode. Each form has its own trials, and they come in difficulty levels that unlock in order. A trial is a Chimera battle with a goal attached; the goal is written on the trial's screen. Rewards are paid right after the battle and cost a Chimera key.
Trials are also reported as a source of Chimera relics and of the Mythical champion Embrys the Anomaly. That is one source's claim and has not been confirmed.
Chests and rewards
Your chest depends on your own damage on the difficulty you fought. The chest ladder has eight steps, from Novice at the bottom to Ultimate at the top, and the damage needed rises with each difficulty. Chests give a random selection from this list:
- Clan Gold and Clan XP.
- Starstone and Basalt, the materials that level up and rank up relics.
- Ocular Masses and Circular Gemstones, in several rarities.
- Champion fragments, though not every chest holds them.
The better chests hold more items. Defeating the Chimera doubles the total the clan earns.
How to approach it
- Learn the forms. Read the skills of Ultimate, Ram, Lion and Viper, and note the one that scares you.
- Start on a difficulty your team survives.
- Build for the whole 65 turns. A team that dies on turn 40 leaves a lot of damage unused.
- Spend both keys every week. Check the key timer in the game so none is wasted.
