- A relic is an extra item a champion wears, separate from the nine gear slots. It adds some stats and one special ability. Each champion wears one.
- A relic has a rarity, a rank and a level. Raising them strengthens the stats and the ability.
- Gemstones are placed in a relic's sockets. Each socket takes only a gem of its own shape, and the gem gives a passive effect.
- Relics are crafted in the Forge from materials. Most families are tied to one mode (Clan, Chimera, Live Arena, Faction Wars...).
- This is a late-game project. Finish your gear sets, speed and masteries first.
What a relic is
Relics arrived with patch 10.0 in December 2024, together with the Chimera. They sit on their own screen of the champion, next to gear, and are not part of any set. Where gear gives stats and set bonuses, a relic gives one named ability, such as "20% chance to place Stormcall on a crit" or "once per round, revive with half HP", plus some stat bonuses that grow as the relic improves.
The game has 94 relic types. A relic's text on a champion page tells you what it does, and the champion's suggested build lists a few that fit its kit.
Rarity, rank and level
- Rarity: Rare, Epic, Legendary or Mythical. Rarity decides how many gem sockets the relic has and where it starts.
- Rank (up to 6): a higher rank makes the ability stronger. Many relic effects scale directly with rank: the chance, the percentage or the duration listed in the text is the starting value.
- Level (up to 18 at the top rank): raises the flat stat bonuses. New stat lines open at the higher levels, so a fresh relic has fewer bonuses than a maxed one.
One guide describes extra relics as "fodder" that you feed into the relic you want to raise, so a spare relic may be material rather than junk. Confirm on the upgrade screen what a given step consumes.
Where relics come from
Relics are mostly crafted rather than dropped. You craft them in the Forge, and each family has its own material:
| Family | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Standard | No materials of its own. Any relic crafting material has about a 50% chance of making a Standard relic. |
| Chimera | Materials from the Chimera. Its Mythical materials come only from there. |
| Clan | Gilded Medallions bought in the clan shop (see Siege and clan). |
| Live Arena | Runed Obsidian earned in the Live Arena. |
| Faction Wars | Hard-mode materials from Faction Wars. |
| Forge Pass, Grim Forest, Events | Materials from the pass, the Grim Forest mode or limited events. These change often. |
For the special families, the chance to craft a relic of that family is capped at 50%; otherwise you can still get a Standard one. That is why many players spend materials in batches rather than one at a time.
Gemstones and sockets
A relic has between one and four sockets, each with a shape. A gemstone fits only a socket of the same shape. The shapes mentioned in guides are circle, diamond, pentagon, square and triangle (one source also lists a hexagon). Live Arena has its own variant of each shape.
- Gemstones do not give flat stats. Each one carries a passive ability, for example extra turn meter, a bonus on a hit, or less damage taken. Different gems give different effects.
- Check the tooltip before repeating a stone. Some gemstone effects are written to depend on how many copies of the stone sit in the relic, so two of the same kind may not simply double it.
- More sockets, more choice. Higher rarity is reported to give more sockets, with Rare the fewest and Mythical the most.
A few examples
These come from the game's own relic text. We describe them in short.
| Relic | What it does |
|---|---|
| Stormcaller | A chance to place a [Stormcall] buff on itself when the wearer lands a critical hit. |
| Immortal Visage | Once per round, revives the wearer with half HP and half turn meter. |
| Journal of Necrotos | Makes the wearer's heals and turn-meter fills on allies 15% stronger. |
| Arachnelixir | The wearer's [Poison] debuffs deal extra damage based on its ATK. |
| Chrysalid of Rebirth | A chance for an extra turn when the wearer revives an ally or itself. |
Numbers in these texts are the base value; the real chance or size is the one on the relic screen at your rank.
Picking a relic for a champion
- Read what the champion does. A poisoner wants a poison relic, a healer a heal or turn-meter relic, a tank something that keeps it alive.
- Prefer an effect that happens often. A relic that triggers once per round or once per battle should match a moment that matters for the content you use it in.
- Use your best relic where it counts. One strong relic on a champion that carries a boss fight beats the same relic on a spare.
- Then add gems that fit the sockets and the same job.
Do not chase relics before your gear is solid: see gear priorities. After that they are one of the largest remaining sources of power, alongside blessings and masteries.
